regarding our biomaterials technologies

Biomaterials are substances that treat, augment, or replace tissue, organs or body functions and are used regularly as components and elements in a wide variety of temporary resorbable or permanent implants. Advances and research in materials technology and a better understanding of the science behind biological processes involved in tissue formation and remodeling have led to the introduction of resorbable biomaterials-based products to address long-standing deficiencies of traditional products and therapies. Kensey Nash Corporation (KNC) has vast experience with developing biomaterial implants that harness the body’s inherent ability to repair tissue damage caused by disease, trauma or age.

KNC participates in the biomaterials market in several ways. We manufacture OEM finished products that are distributed by our customers into the marketplace. KNC also manufactures both proprietary and OEM biomaterial components for customers who incorporate them into their own products. Finally, we independently (or collaboratively) design and develop proprietary biomaterial products that are distributed to the marketplace by our strategic partners.

Our current biomaterials development programs encompass products for soft tissue repair, spine and trauma, orthobiologics and drug/device combinations. Several of our development programs address markets for which there are significant unmet clinical needs. These include cartilage regeneration, tissue reinforcement and repair and controlled release drug delivery.

Multifaceted testing is performed on all of our biomaterial products to ensure safe and effective production of resorbable implants. Our various biomaterials technology platforms are based on both natural materials and synthetic polymers. Our collagen porous polymer and molded polymer technologies have been used in th ecreation of innovative products for regeneration of bone and cartilage, repair and reinforcement of damaged tissues as well as delivery of drugs, cells and growth factors.

Our collagen and polymeric biomaterials and devices are used in various fields including drug delivery, cardiovascular, neurological, dental, maxillofacial, and orthopedic medicine.
